Pearson 34 Deck Collar

Hi - I need to replace the deck collar on our 1983 P34 that we've owned for 2 years and have been renovating since. Took the mast down this winter to re-wire and check rigging, replace spreader boots and the deck collar broke. Been looking for a replacement for a while. The spars appear to be by Hall, contacted Hall and they had a collar which they thought would fit - purchased a their Sec 200 collar, but the flange is too narrow to screw down to deck and this collar has no protrusion into deck. Contacted RigRite and they believe the Schaefer collar 200 fits but again it is too small and outrageously priced $500. I am now going to take the broken old collar to a machine shop I know to see what options they can provide and also contacting a foundry to see about casting a new one. Would appreciate any ideas or suggestions
thanks,
Mark Weston

We had a new mast base fabricated for our prior sailboat. Added "wings" with holes for shackling turning blocks just where we wanted them.
Local shop that built and modified aluminum fishing boats did the work. Not at all expensive. (Smaller shops seem to like these little custom bits to fill in around their larger runs.)
Finally had it anodized -- although that would be the more difficult part these days since the last local small shop for that was bought up by a large corp and no longer does small jobs.
If you want changes in your old part, bring in a mock-up and an accurate drawing. But you knew that!
:)

Is your original / broken collar cast aluminum? Darned tough to weld on that. Starting over probably best anyway. Our factory collar is fabricated from SS and nicely designed.

Regards,
Loren

Hi Loren - thanks for reply. I was beginning to think the only solution is order a new fabricated piece. I used to own a stainless steel fabrication shop, which would've been convenient. Yes the deck collar broke - it was a cast aluminum and is pretty well shot so seems repair is not an option. I don't know any local small steel fab shops but have a work colleague with a machine shop that does everything. Will do a little research and draw something up - and of course bring in the old unit, once I find a shop to have work done. I've attached a few pics of the tired collar.
