Hello SBO Members,
On May 21st Eileen and I became the caretakers of a beautiful 1986 Pearson 33-2 (#71) named Trilogy. We met her in Cortez, Florida and traveled on the ICW to Charlotte Harbor where we spent two nights at Safe Harbor Burnt Store before continuing to Safe Cove Boat Storage near the mouth of the Myakka River. There the boat will wait patiently on land for us until we can return later this year. As I have done in the past our log of the trip is a nearly completed poem describing our adventure. When it is complete, including pictures, I will attempt to attach it to this post.
I have a few questions specifically for Pearson 33-2 owners who have made modifications to the holding tank (or bladder) system in their boat. Our plan is to stay aboard our boat for several weeks during the winter. The current holding tank is the molded plastic style with an estimated capacity of 8 gallons. It is inboard of the water heater and may be lower in the sail locker. It appears to have been installed protruding a bit into the port side of the engine compartment, but I did not confirm that prior to leaving. The larger tank idea just came to mind since we arrived home.
Question 1: Have you managed to install a larger holding tank in your Pearson 33-2?
Question 2: Where did you install it? Currently our water heater is directly aft of the rear bulkhead of the head. The tubing that leads to the "Y" valve, the holding tank, pump out fitting, or the shut off for the overboard tubing is all on the hull in the sail locker area on the port side just outboard of the water heater. NOTE: boat in Florida, me in PA so no pictures available.....Hence, asking owners of the same boat for help. I did not find a discussion of this change in the Forum that includes Pearson Yachts.
Question 3: In my opinion the water heater could be moved aft in the sail locker and likely be replaced without too much difficulty. Yes, we all know how those projects can get out of hand! If that water heater move was accomplished I think a larger molded holding tank could be placed just aft of the bulkhead and secured there quite well. Does that sound like a reasonable change and has anyone done it or a similar rearrangement?
Question 4: For those who have changed the holding tank, what tank style (brand and model number and capacity) did you choose? What complications did you encounter?
Thanks for guidance and for any pictures of your project.
