I'm considering the purchase of a P - 323. i would appreciate comments on performance, how well owners like them, and anything I should be concerned about.
Larry has one and I drool everytime I see her. Seet lines, sails like a dream, cozy inside. But he has lots of toys, like a boom holder, full dodger, self tailing winches, autopilot. He also has air scoops???? which makes it look nautical. She's a beaut!I cannot say enough good things about the boat. I have a 37'Irwin, but love the Pearson too.
I have a 1981 P323 that I like very much. What are the specifics on the boat you are looking at? I just had mine surveyed this summer. The present survey value is $29,900. My boat has some nice features like a new A/C unit, autopilot, chartplotter, etc. I would sell mine for $25,000 just to give you an idea.
Have a '80 323. Love it. Doesn't sail as fast as some (phrf=181) but no slug either. Points reasaonably well given decent sails and triming. Loves a reach, does OK on a run. Huge amount of storage space for a 32' boat. Palatial head. Easy liveaboard for one or maybe two people. More gets to be like guests or fish after three days. I usually live on mine for about 8 months out of the year. Have added a few creature comforts but very nice boat to handle and easy to live on. Great tankage.Shoal draft nice for gunkholing. Heavy but pretty well constructed and a tough "little" boat. Very forgiving of my mistakes. Only common complaints I'm aware of are corroded mast at the base and maybe leaking salon port lights. Both are easy to fix.Be happy to answer any specific questions you may have,Regards,Al
Mark we love our 1980 Pearson 323. She doesn't point as well and is not as fast or roomy as some but we have always felt secure while at sea. There is a little corrosion at the base of the mast and the volvo has wanted to overheat a little. But overall very happy. Something like a Catalina 34 has a lot more room. The P323 has about the same room as a Catalina 30 due to the narrower beam. It is usually just me and my wife and we have stayed out a couple of weeks at a time. Once 4 days only getting off the boat once for an hour or so to walk on the beach. Craig it sounds like you have done some upgrades on your boat. Would you consider a trade with some cash??? We love our boat but would part company for a better Pearson 323. We have the portable AC. If interested write me c172guy@netzero.com . Was the boat damaged by the recent hurricanes??Tom
Thanks again for the comments. The information was very helpful in making my decision. Made an offer this morning. Sounds like the kind of boat I've been looking for in that I don't race, but like to sail and go on weekend cruises. This one needs some TLC though.
I have corrosion at the base of my mast. It doesn't appear to be getting any worse since I painted it with rustoleum and attached a zinc. The zinc is showing a little corrosion. I don't want to pull the mast and replace the plate with aluminum until needed. No motion etc detectable.Tom
