With wing keels it's good if the rudder is not longer than the keel. Maybe Lake Michigan is deep enough it doesn't matter. Hitting the bottom with the keel is a problem. Hitting the bottom with the rudder is a crisis. If you follow enough stories of failed voyages, cruises and daysails failure of steering is often the first step in a cascading string of events that causes a dangerous situation.
I had a wing keel on my H356. I think I gave up some pointing ability but being able to access gunk holes in the Peconic Bay estuary made it worth it.
Other than that I just can say that Pearson has a good reputation for building solid boats that are forgiving to use and in the used market are a good value.
The need to re-power is a big issue in purchase of any older boat. What engine does it have?

Cal Cal 33-2 cape cod
Looks like a solid boat, gel coat still shines. Sugar scoop is nice for boarding and exiting onto dinghy, nice that they're offering the dinghy in deal. Yanmar 2 Gm is a dependable engine, 18HP should move that boat along, Bill Shaw is a good designer, designed the Cal 33-2, similar look & feel. Teak trim & veneer looks in good condition, can't see any water damage, seems like a dry boat. Fresh water boat. Press on deck, see if there are any soft spots, get a survey, and make an offer, if the spirit moves you.

Here's a chart, to give an estimation of difference between your Hunter & the Pearson. Assuming I'm correct in the boats involved.
The 31 is 2' wider, about 1/2 knot more hull speed, similar Sail area to displacement, and a bit more comfort @ sea.

Oday 322 East Chicago, IN
Should be a good boat for the Great Lakes I would think. Similar to my O’Day 322 with a wing keel. A deeper draft boat would be OK for Lake Michigan. But most of the boats at my marina (a fleet of Hunter 33-2s, my O’Day 322, otqehers) are all wing keel boats.

I looked at a Pearson 30 back when I was buying my first boat. They seemed to be decent quality.
