When we got out first sailboat a few years ago my neighbor gave me an old copy of an out of date chart program entitled Chart Plotter Pro the included Tides and Currents. The best part of this program is that you could lay out a course, tie way points to current markers and then run an ETA function to determine the best time for a trip. Since we sail in the Pacific Northwest where currents can run up to 8kts, this can mean a huge difference.

Unfortunately, this software is not comparable with Win7 and I am interested in upgrading to a newer more feature rich setup. But the Navionics PC chart plotter lets you set routes but there's no way (other than manual) to run through the ETA variables taking the impact of currents into account. Anyone know of an application that might have this feature?

Tom,
Like you, my old nav software won't run properly on Win 7.
Rather than replace the software which I really like (Nobeltec, Vis Navigator),
I simply went to Buy.com and bought a refurbished slimline PC (for less than $250 ) that is loaded with Win XP.
I've been using it as my dedicated boat PC and will continue to do so until I transition to using an I-Pad w/ one (or more) nav apps.

I gave gone the way of the Android tablet. It has the latest IceCreamSandwich software. I doubt it would work with your software. But there are all kinds of software out here that may do what you want with win7. Maybe check Active Captain, sea clear, Open cpn, Google...
I have been playing with Active captain mostly. It seems them easiest to use.
