My 25.5 hull/deck stripes are badly weathered. They appear to be vinly tape applied to the hull and deck. I contacted Hunter; they apparently no longer have the patterns. Does anyone have the patterns, dimensions, or experience with a vendor to get replacements?

Jack: I would suggest that you remove them first and see what you think about the boat without them. I know that I removed my cabin stripes and then decided that it really looks better without them. I have also removed the hull stripe on one side and I am in the deciding stages on that now.

Hunter 25.5 sans stripes is the way to go
I agree with the other response here 100%. I think the stripes actually detract from the boat and give it that "80s" look. Just as in pinstripes for automobiles, stripes give the boat a less classic look in my opinion. While some stripes do serve to break up an unweldy/large looking area, most tend to clutter and cheapen the design. If keeping any of them, I would opt for the lower set on the doghouse. I am still wondering about the choice of burnt orange for many of these boats, as this color is about as appealing as a rotten pumpkin in July. Give it some lovely sun fade and you have a miserable sight on your hands. In addition, it seems the aesthetics department of many sailboats in the 70s and 80s was quite poor. Given the horrible interior fabric seen in most Catalinas/Hunters etc, it is almost imperative to ditch the Charlie Brown plaid or mauve delite seen on many options. Having those exterior stripes made of tape is actually a BOON in my view. kh

Jack, Have you received any advice on removal of hull stripes. My '85 Hunter 25.5 has some nicks in the stripes. But I'd like to know the best way to remove them without harming the gel coat. I'll keep watch of this thread.

No "how to remove" comments so far. My plan would be using heat from hair dryer on "low." BoatUS also sells plastic razor blades that fit standard scrapers; I would use them in conjunction with, or instead of heat. I would use a chemical remover as last resort unless someone has positive success and recommendation.

Scraping was not my first choice.
