Parsun outboards?

I am in the market for a new 4 stroke motor for my Pearson 26, and found these Parsun motors:

Has anyone had any experience with these?

this looks lilke a rebranded line of outboards from tohatsu. Let us know if you order and receive a motor and if it looks and runs like advertised. I am always leary of these "dicouunt sites" I would think they are overseas dealers, like China etc>?

They are made in Shanghai, China..... google 'em. New US/China joint venture started around 2001... Parsun also builds heavy duty water pumps and compressors.

The website above lists a company in Jakarta, Indonesia. I have not been able to find a US distributor.

No mention of warranty. If I were going to try them I would get this:

I am guessing that it is a counterfeit copy but if it's real, it is a great price!

It looks very similar to ....

...but the bore/stroke and cu. in. displacement doesn't match the Tohatsu...

....is great, but I don't think I'd be brave enough to try and order it from over there, love our Tohatsu 9.8 extra long shaft though that we got from onlineoutboards ,

Definitely not the same as Tohatsu.. The Parsun engines have been oveseas for a while but they've not been able to get a distributor here in the US of A .. I do think that Parsun is making the engines for Lehr, the propane powered ones..

EDIT: Looks like there are distributors in Canada and Australia..

Scuttlebutt is that they were cloned from some of the older Yamaha 4 strokes..

I would be very concerned

Parts availability would bother me greatly. Don't matter about a warranty, unless you can get the parts somewhere. You know you will want a water pump in less than three years.

don't even waste your time trying to communicate with them,they have no one who can efficiently use the english language yet.seemed only willing to sell shipping container loads meant for a dealer sized purchase.

Just because Tohatsu makes the engines does NOT indicate that they are the same as Tohatsu/Nissan. They make the Mercury but I would not own a Mercury based on my experience with their newer engines.

These Parsun's are less than 1/2 the price. I would find out if there is a dealer network for warranty repairs.

I understand the the COLEMAN brand outboards are made by parsun. The COLEMAN motors did not look liek something I wanted, so I searched Craigslist and found a good deal on a NISSAN outbard.

There is reason EVERYBODY and there are MANY who have attempted to bring in various off-brands of outboards have ended in EPIC FAILURE

You can pretty much buy anything from Alibaba but if it has electric parts and bearings it is pretty hit and miss

buy an outboard with a solid dealer network, parts, and a warranty with service locally

Hey bffatcat, I see that you are in Marblehead. Any chance your boat is in Parker's for the winter? I just had mine hauled a couple of weeks ago, and it is sitting next to another p26.
