Paper backing on butyl tale

Either water or moisture has gotten to a roll of butyl tape I had on the boat. When I unroll some tape, backing paper sticks to it and makes it useless.

Any suggestions how I can salvage about 3/4 roll of butyl tape?

patience and perseverance is the only way ...i would just give up the ghost and order a new roll and keep it in a dry ,well ventilated place from now on

Try chilling it in the fridge first and see if the paper peels off more easily.

Throw it in a bucket of water until the paper comes off on its own? It certainly won't hurt the butyl.

Yep... that is what I was going to say also. You might need to freeze it. This same trick works for getting that last little bit of candle wax out of the glass candle holder. Freeze it, turn it over and rap on the table, and the little plug of wax comes right out. Chemically speaking, buty is not that far off from wax. I have not done it but I think it should work. I'd cut out the sections of tape I need to the right size, then stick them in the freezer for an hour. The backing should peel right off
