Has anyone tried painting small areas with the small pressurized cans that are screwed onto small jars of paint that you fill with your paint

Yup, and they work well for spraying gel coat too.

There's lot of hints and tips and videos on the web ... usually linked to distrubutors websites.

"The secret" for spraying boat coatings, is to pre-filter the fluid before you put it into the 'bottle' and remove the teeny screen on the PreVal 'suction tube' ... so you dont waste a lot of 'propellent' trying overcome the 'thickness' of the usual boat coatings. Fine conical 'paint strainers' (from auto body shop paint suppliers) are the best for 'prefiltering'.

We used them often 'in the business." Great for gel coat spot repairs - usually thinned. Also for PVA (mold release) to cover gel coat repairs (eliminate air) till it "goes off." Also works well for touch-up with VC17. One caution: as with any aerosol canister, it can splatter when about out of air. If this will matter to your job, stop early or replace your canister.

I was at a body shop supply place wanting to get a small can of matched paint for my truck and a small air sprayer for my compressor. The guy told me about those. They look great. He sail there is enough propellent to paint 1 1/2 body panels. He really talked them up. I wanted the more expensive sprayer...
When I pick up the paint I think I'm going to give it a try. For my truck at least. I may still get the small spray gun to use with my compressor for larger jobs I can foresee.
