Paint

Mike, I did see and answer your question earlier. Are you talking about gelcoat on the upper portion or bottom paint below the water line? I will look for your reply. Sincerely, Al Walker Foss Foam

rudder painting ,

Al ,I must have missed, the answer , are u saying use bottom paint on wetted portion of rudder and something other on top, I have tried lots of different paint over the years and the rudder never seems to hold paint, was wondering if it required some special prep, thanks again Mike B

Gelcoat

Mike, When we make a rudder it's surface is gelcoat. Usually on off the transom rudders like yours bottom paint is applied below the waterline. When reapplying gelcoat you should sand the old gelcaot well before spraying on new gel. For a nicer finish sand the gel with 5oo grit wet and dry sand paper and buff it out with buffing compound. I hope this answers your question. Thanks, Al Walker Foss Foam
