Just purchased a 30 year old Bruce Roberts 25' pilot house sloop(fiberglass). Deck is solid but looks terrible because of age & the po did a sloopy job with caulk on some rebedding work. What would be the best paint to use on the deck. I need to do it myself because money is an issue but want it to look decent. Was wondering if some type of outdoor enamel would be sufficient or do i have to buy the high dollar "marine paint" from west marine? All comments would be appreciated as I start on my newest vessel! Try 2-part polyurethane paint

Lowe's has a decent marine paint but
I used Polyglow that I bought from West Marine. Keep it thinned out as it tends to thicken up rather quickly (I thought). A little paint goes a long way. I used almost 3 quarts and it would have been cheaper to buy a gallon. Came out beautifully, though (except where I missed a tiny drip or two). Most of your battle will be in the prep work. Don't scrimp on that! I super cleaned, super sanded and super cleaned again. Took only a couple days to paint, but a week to prep!

Are you planning to paint the topsides or deck?
They are totally different areas on a boat. If you confuse the two, you could have a problem.

One part Poly
I have a 77 Catalina 30. I painted the deck last year with Interlux Toplac. It has held up real well. I used a good quality brush and brushing liquid Interlux 333. I use the boat almost every day. Two part paint is tricker to use but it too stands up well. A bit more difficult to touch up that the one part type. By the way, check out Defender.com for better pricing on paint. One quart was enough for my 30 ft deck on the non skid part. About $30.00/quart.

Hey John, I have used Toplac on my topsides stripes. I used tip and roll and that paint is amazing. I was wondering, did you use any non-skid additives with your Toplac for your non-skid areas? Did you use a roller? Tip & roll? Spray? Any preparation tips?I am thinking of doing my nonskid a light grey. Regards, Big Joe
