We are refurbishing our '76 and are now ready to work on the non-skid on the deck. Currently the color is nameless except that it looks sort of a bronzish, tannish, caramel color. We'd like to paint it a light grey. We've done the research and know how to prepare the surface and will be using Interlux Brightside Polyurethane. We just want to make sure that we will not be faced with major annual upkeep with this new paint job, and that the surface will hold up to the rigors of sailing. Anyone w/any experience????

Non skid paint

We painted the blue topsides on our 1982 Newport 30. we used Interlux Brightside Polyurethane white. To get the white to cover the blue took about 3 coats, but once done it has held up very well, even with the anchore and chain sliding over it. We have sold the Newport and have a C-36 now with grey top sides and will not hesitate to do it again. Bob Emerald Oddysea Hull # 586

Non Skid

Five years ago I did the same color of grey over blue on my'76. I have not had to repaint the Interlux since. I have been very happy with it. I did use their flattening agent however, as I did not want the surface to be too glossy. Reccommend the product. Sean-- Carnaby Street

Me too

I had the sky blue non skid & painted with Seattle Gray Brightsides. Instead of mixing the nonskid sandy stuff (can't remember exactly what we used) into the paint, we poked holes in the top of the can, painted on one coat of paint one section at a time & sprinkled the sandy stuff on while it was still wet. After doing the whole boat the same way, we swept & vacuumed (after everything was dry of course) and applied another coat of paint to finish it off. Turned out great! Unfortunately, an ill timed drop of a winch handle or two has chipped out a little paint in the cockpit. Good luck - you'll be amazed at the difference it makes in the appearance! LaDonna
