I just removed the paint off my boom that was, scatched, blistered and chipped and it now nice shiny and smooth. One person told me to apply a prime Zinc chomate and then paint it. Another told me to leave it bare and spray it with an aluminum protector. I like the latter since it would or should be more maintenance free. Any comments ? Will the protector really work. I don't want a crusted boom. Thanks. Jim

Boom painting

Have many years experience painting aluminum.Needs to be totally stripped, acid washed, alodined, epoxy primed and LP topcoat (linear polyurethane)Go to your automotive paint supply store (these are the guys that supply the body shops) and tell them you need their complete system for painting bare aluminum. Be sitting down when receiving the bill. Cheap it's not, but this system will last a very long time. My stuff has been out there 25+ years and still looks good. Hope this helps. Mike
