Hi All,

Happy New Year.
I have an old engine I got.
I have the exact same engine in my boat.
No one wants to work on my MD2B so have to figure this out myself.

I was looking to get rid of the 50 year old paint and rust and repaint.
While I go along refurbishing it.

The two green images are the rust.
The bare metal image is what I can get to relatively easily.
I use aircraft paint remover to remove the paint.
Then remove the rust using vinegar.
Then sit it in Evaporust.
Then I dry it and remove anything left with a dremel.

Once that is done.
What do you recommend ?

I have tried Phosphoric Acid to keep it stable until I reassemble the whole thing
but it does not seem to work well. 4124 is what it looks like after being close to bare metal and then sprayed the
Total Boat - Rust Primer.

I assume I need another primer, if so what do you recommend ?
or do you simply start painting it with the Volvo Paint can and that seals it ?

There are both schools of thought, prime or don't prime. I have used primer in the past with no issues but others say the same without primer. If you google it, you will see both sides.
If you choose to use primer, find one that is high heat tolerant.
