I have to crape the paint off my hull, particualrly at the water line where sonme has flaked off. What kind of scraper should I use? I don't want to use anything that would damage/gouge the gelcoat. Any ideas?

Sand blasting

I paid to have my 28.5 sand blasted. This depends on how many blisters you have. This realy opened up the bottom , dryed it out, and started fresh.

Alternative to sandblasting

Two options. The first is our old friend, sandpaper. You can use random orbital sander with 80 grit. Tape off your water line well and sand away. You can fair out the chips or flakes so it looks smooth when you apply new paint. The other option is strippers. We have used Pintoff by Petitt I believe. It's better than the strippers you have to cover with plastic wrap. You give it a few minutes to soak it up and take a putty knife and simply scrape it off. Clean up as you go so you don't walk in it. An extra pair of old shoes you can take on and off and some plastic sheeting helps keep the surrounding area clean. It will not damage gel coat or epoxy barrier coat. It will however eat the skin right off your bones so do yourself a big faxor and blow 15 bucks on a good set of extra long chemical gloves. Sounds messy and it is. But once you get a system it goes real fast. good luck Doug
