Paint removal

I have a fair amount of obnoxious paint to remove from the hull and decks. Other than chemical or sanding is there any other method/equipment avaiable for a do it yourselfer.

Pain removal and re-painting

Tom: I admit I wasn't sure what to use to remove pain, although some has peeled off in spots. I wasn't sure what to do so I sanded the areas of loss paint, which I know you could do to the boat. Once that was completed, (I hand sanded the hull of a 22 footer), and filled in the dents and dings with clear silicone sealant and smoothed it over with my finger and let it dry and spray painted over it and these areas have held up fine. I have not used any paint remover on the hull.I have purchesed marine paint, and I was told I could hand paint the hull which is what I am going to do this weekend.

no tools?

Just good old fashion elbow grease? No hand sanders? Did you sand it all off to the original surface? How long or better how many hours did it take you?Thanks

Peel A Way,,,,,,,

I took off bottom paint with Peel A' Way and discovered West Marines version works as well.. Because of the nastys in bottom paint I didn't wanna breath the dust so I used this chemistry to soften the paint and peeled it off with a power-washer. I backed the boat over a large poly tarp to catch the gook. When done I let the tarp sun dry. Took tarp and all to a disposal facility. It is safe for fiberglass. Not all paint removers are safe.
