Am I stuck with the stock colors put out by Interlux and Pettit? I have a color chart from Interlux. I want to paint my deck just a shade off stark white. My hull is a little off white in the beige tone. Any sugestions where I could have the white Marine paint custom blended. Is there any other paint company that produces marine paints.

Paint

You can always mix your own color. Just keep track of your formula. The boat next to me had its non-skid deck painted at least 5 years ago with a very sophisticated covering. It was Sears latex house paint. Still looks great. What can I tell you :)?

Are you sure?

Are you sure they don't make the color you want? It may not be on West Marine's shelves but they may be able to order it. When I bought my paint, there were several tones of white. You might ask & see if they have a card with the color samples. LaDonna

Tint your own

Add a drop or two of either yellow and brown or black to the white. Just keep track of what and how much you use. If you get stuck ask any auto body supply store for tints and hints on color tinting. Use small batches to get the right color and then use those proportions for the batch mix. Use natural and indirect light to really get what color you want. Takes some patience.

I was also thinking the same thing.

Don: I was thinking the same thing as LaDonna. If you go to a marine store, they have color charts like they have for house paint. These stores can also custom tint the paint for you but I would suggest that you pick a standard color.

They have many more colors -- yes, they can be painted (or at least Awlgrip can)

Can we get some reliable color matches???

It would be a marvelous feature at this site if we could compile a list of paint brands and colors which have worked for other owners. Perhaps it could be housed under "Paint" in the archives, or given its own category similar to gelcoat. I know that colors fade and manufacturers change colors at times, but to have a reference point to select paint which has worked on similar boats is a starting point. Noone would be held liable if a color didn't match. We would be sharing information as we do in other cases. I tried LaDonna's idea with Interlux paint. I held the color swatch up to the rudder on my boat. I selected the color which matched best from the swatch, and it turned out to be too light. It is really hard to take a brochure with colors printed on it and get an accurate match. Custom-mixing is certainly another option, but if off the shelf paint works, I'd like to know about it. I would like to buy the closest match to the hull color of my ODay 272 to repaint the rudder. Tom

Paint colors.

Just wrote "Another Experience" to a post on Hunter Mid-Size query about non-skid, see Related Link. I think my testing with a lazarette cover paid real dividends.

Good info but.

Are oil based color tints compatable with one part polyurethanes. If so can I go to a paint store with a gallon of Interlux white and a color chip to scan and end up with the exact shade I want.
