I want to re-paint the lines across the top sides of the boat and where the original lines were painted under the edge. Any advice as to a brand of paint to use. I want to keep the original colors. Also after our cruise the bottom of the boat is quite filthy with yellow brown stains. What should I use to clean it off with before we compound and wax?

Your strip was not paint, but plastic tape, you can probably get the originals from hunter. The brown stains will come off with white vinegar, if that fails, try a product named on and off, very powerfull acid, but it works! Good luck

Robin: John is right. If the stripes are the original ones they are tape. I posted something in the Photo Forum on de-stripping with a device called an 'eraser'. Be careful if you use one of these devices. Someone reported one comming apart. I used it and must say it is very easy and quick to use. If they have been re-done with paint, then you can use "oven-off" oven cleaner. There will be a yellowish cast where the paint was, but that will fade with the sun. Another product is Mary Kate for your brownish stains. It is available at West Marine and other marine stores. Be careful with it too, because it is ACID. Make sure you wear gloves and eye protection. If you get it on you either jump in the water or hose it off quickly.

Yellow Stains - Lemon Juice
I've read that lemon juice will remove the yellow stains. The citric acid in the juice dissolves the yellow.

What I used.
We used the acylic acid bought from West Marine. We applied it and the stains came off quickly and then we washed the boat down. You can see the stains if you go to the H31 photo's. I am looking forward to adding a new picture of our cleaned boat.
