I have a 1981 H30 with 15 hp Yanmar. What size of packing flax should I use, and is there a particular brand that is better?

I sent the question to Hunters support , and got this reply..
I have no way to confirm but believe it was 5/16".

Definitely not 5/16". You can get 1/4" in there but it is really tight and difficult to do. With the 3/16" you can do three rings for a good seal.
