Teflon is great!
Jim, I believe the flax is 1/4". I had the boatyard replace it with Teflon when she was last hauled but the boatyard didn't specify the size on the receipt. I can tell you that there are no drips and no wear with teflon when it is adjusted properly. After the initial adjustment there is a slight moistening of the shaft at the log but no drips. The shaft spins free with no heating after extended motoring trips and I haven't touched it in over a year. I highly recommend it as a cheaper alternative to a dripless bearing and quite frankly, it's owner repairable should you have a problem underway. Just add more flax if you need to. I'm sure you'll get a verification of the flax size from the forum and then you're good to go. I won't ever use anything else myself.Tom HadouliasS/V Lite Chop
