Does anyone know the size hex nut used on the packing gland? It's a bear to get at it, it's just under the cabinet. I need to adjust the dripping and was wondering if any 30 owners have found a pair of wrenches that would make it easier?

It is "probably" 1-1/4", but I don't trust my recollections anymore.

I purchased a couple of inexpensive adjustable aluminum sink drain wrenches from my local tool outlet for a couple bucks apiece. They are lightweight, live well in salt air and don't mess with my autopilot's fluxgate compass like the steel wrenches I formerly used occasionly did.

Thanks Chris, Just got back from Lowes. I picked up an inexpensive 10" monkey wrench and a plumbers spanner wrench like the one in MaineSail's "how to" site. I had to get a new faucet too because mine developed an annoying drip. My next visit will be to work:cry:.

The nuts on my 84 C30 are 1-3/4" and 2". Mahall Marine Products sell open end wrenches specifically for them, "Adjust-Eze" wrenches. I have been trying to get hold of them, e-mail gets kicked back and they have not yet returned my phone call. Cost is about $80 to $85 for a pair. Be sure to measure as he notes that any combination of 1-3/4", 1-7/8" or 2" may have been used on older boats.

I have also found wrenches in these sizes at MSC Industrial Supply and less expensive. The difference is Mahall's are anodized aluminum, 15 degree offset so the maximum offset of the wrenches will be 30 degrees. MSC's are chrome steel and 30 degree offset, 60 degree maximum offset. Both are 8" to 8-1/2" long. I will continue to try to contact Mahall because, as you mention, it's a bear to get at.
