Has anyone out there found a way to get to the packing gland nut or the thru-hull seacocks without removing the batterys or taking a Sawsall to the passageway walls? I own a 92 Passage.

Access Door

We owned a 94 P-42. It had a small access door. You had to remove the engine door and the aft cabin door so they were out of your way. Need (in my case) two people, one laying down using the small access door in the between the two doors you removed, the other person reaching through the engine access opening (door). You also need the correct tools. I did it once then hired the "Dealer" after that to change the packing material. Thru-Hull's can be reached by leaning over the engine (put you chest on the top of the engine for support) and extending your right arm down between the other stuff to what ever thru-hull you want.

Thanks Gordon.

I am afraid that I didn't provide enough info. My H42 Passage has the 8kW generator just above the engine so I can't get in that way, The back access is completely blocked by the batterys, the support frame and the muffler. The small access door allows me to just touch the packing gland and seacocks with my finger tips of one hand. Not enough to do any useful work.

Remove batteries.

John: I say you remove the batteries and put in one of the PYI, PSS seals. Then you are done with it. You will still need access to the seal when you haul the boat, but that is just for burping.
