Can the packing material for the stuffing box be changed with the boat in water?

In short, yes.

I've done it on my 295. It helps to have the packing precut and trimmed and to have packing picks (to get the old packing out) and the tools necessary immediately available. Check to make sure your battery is charged, because your bilge pump will work. It's really not too bad.

No problem mon

Jim, Especially on the 376/380, it is very easy and surprisingly little water gets into the boat. Bob is correct in saying that it really helps to have the tools immediately available and having the new packing precut. I found it useful to cut the edge with a bevel rather than a straight edge. Don't forget to run the engine after repacking and readjusting tension on the packing nut until you have the right amount of dripping (or no dripping if going with teflon). This part took me longer than pulling the old flax out and replacing. Paul Bednarzyk S/V Knot Again
