Hi,
I am thinking of trailering my vega up to Seattle and
spending a couple of weeks cruising in the area.
I could use some advice.Where can I get a cheap travel
lift or crane in and out? I would also like any
references to a good cruising guide. Thanks in advance.

Brett,

You should be able to pick up any of the "Gunkholing" series of cruising
guides at West Marine. They were written by a married couple are are quite
good.

Wish I was still out there instead of in Virginia.

Try the Oak Harbor Marina on Whidby Island. My boat is on the hard
there and the previous owner assures me that the lift there is a good
one and relatively inexpensive.

We are hoping to make the rendevous this year. Not sure if we'll be able to
bring Lyric as there is much work to be done yet. If we do bring her how far
from Oak Harbor to Port Browning? We're also in need of a sailmaker that can
re-cut the foot of our mainsail. Any recomendations? If we do make it we
will be bringing 200 feet of 1/4" high test chain (stronger than 5/16" BBB).
Problem is it is to much weight on our bow. We would like to come home with
100 feet. This chain retails for $2.20 US a foot at Defender and thats the
cheapest price I can find. Any one interested in the the other hundred feet
should make me an offer. Hint, not less than half price.

Walt:
It's about 68 nm from Oak Harbor to Port Browning. A more direct
route would be from Bellingham, a bit further north along I5, only
38 nm to Port Browning.
I believe there are marinas and ramp facilities there. If you like,
I could investigate further.
