A 35.5 Won Around '90 or so
Back around the time when the 35.5 was introduced a 35.5 raced in the double-handed division and won it's class; this was somewhere around 1990 or so. The boat was owned by Gary Baillargeon (sp?) who, the last I heard, works for the Ocean Alexander dealer in Seattle. Recommend contacting him for tips. Bruce Hedricks, the North sails loft owner and "highly respected" big boat tactician for the northwest, pre race analysis was to have the Hunter holding up the rear of the pack. Boy, was he proved wrong!!Tip: a lot of money was spent fairing the bottom.Tip: Fly the spinnaker all night! The first few days they would take it down at night and a Cal 40 would pass them each time, then they quit taking it down. The fleet wound up in a gale and the Cal 40 who was double handed with husban and wife said he couldn't take the chute down until after the storm was over. The Cal 40 owner was probably the leading tactician on the entire west coast and all the hot boats wanted him. He bought the 40 just for this race and rigged it to the hilt.If you go for it, good luck!
