Somewhere along the way I saw some threads and photos about modifications and upgrades one or more people had made to P36-2s. Unfortunately I didn't bookmark it and don't remember what message board it was posted on. Could participants on this board help by providing links to useful mods, upgrades, maintenance hints, etc. that they have found especially interesting and/or helpful? We're making a list of ideas and boat projects for the (few) times that nothing critical is in need of repair or maintenance :) My husband and I enjoy tinkering around on the boat when the weather or time constraints don't allow us to sail. Thanks!!!

P36-2

Hello, If you scroll down this page you will see many P36-2 items.....Tons from me as I just purchased a 1986 P36-2. Also, if you search for P36-2 in the archives, you should find a long thread from a gentleman who has also done many upgrades to his boat. Where do you sail out of? Greg P36-2 #101 Mt. Sinai

P36-2

I tried searching the archives for P36-2, but don't get any results. The search function didn't seem to like that phrase. We sail out of Stamford, CT.

P36 vs Beneteau 361

Just a question Greg, since you just made the decision - if the choice was between a 1989 Pearson 36 and a Beneteau 361 do you have any words of wisdom by comparison and why? Thanks, Paul

Not Familiar

I am not really familiar with the Beneteau 361, however it looks like a nice boat. The reason we chose the Pearson P36-2 was for the reputation and the layout. Of this vintage, and size, it was one of the only boats we found with a seperate enclosed aft cabin. Our boat required some substantial work, however it will be all worth it in the end.

Search function doesn't work for me either

I tried to help Nancy by searching for "P36-2" in the archives but it didn't give me any results. Strange...

P36-2 upgrades

Hi guys, We just got back to NYC after several weels sailing between Chesapeake Bay , NYC, and LI Sound from one end to the other. This is the first time we've connected to the web in weeks so I missed this quiry about the mods to our boat that I posted back in Feb/March. Apparently the administrator of this forum has remover then as I can't find them in the archives either. Don,t fret, I saved them all in Word and can send them to you if you give me an e-mail address. Ariel PS.I will soon write about the water tank gauge I made for about ten dollars and four hours time, but thats later.

P-36-2

Alex, This is not uncommon although I have never seen one deformed this bad. When we purchased our boat fifteen years ago it had a "inset" of about 1/4 inch. By not cranking the board up all the way (leave about 3 inches down) and relaxing the cable each winter when on the hard, it has relaxed a little to about 1/8 inch. In that boats case I suspect it the plywood panel has taken a more permenent set.

Thank You

Thanks for your input! Do you know where to find the Modifications and Upgrades to the Pearson 36-2?

Upgrades and Mods

If you look through the archives under 36-2 many items will pop up. Ariel has a nice thread, but there are a few others....just keep reading the board and you will see some good stuff. I just bought a 1986 36-2 w/ centerboard that needed a deck job....just finished this and many other projects and going into the water Wednesday Good Luck! Greg P36-2 #101

Deck Moisture

Greg - How extensive was the moisture in your decks? We just got our inspection done and the readings were high around the jib tracks and a few stansions. Do you think you would replace that part of the core or just bed those areas and stop from more water entering. Thanks for the advice.

Well......

When I opened the deck, the core was like a sponge from the sail trach down into the middle of the deck....the stansion near the foredeck on both sides was dry, however the next two back were wet, with the aft most stantion not so bad. The third stansion back.....outside the navigation station / galley window was shot to the point the stansion bases were breaking through the deck....no support. The chain plates were not bad at all...actually pretty dry. There is a thread with pictures regarding the re-coring of my deck. For me, it was well worth it based on the price I paid and the cost of the work. I would have done a few things differently though. If you want to know more, let me know. Greg

In the water

Hi Gregg, Glad to see you are finally in the water (I hope). We just returned from 4+ weeks on the water. Suffered through 60-70 kt winds while rafted in a t-storm!! Ripped 2 stanchions off other boat, mine has one bent and a bent gate brace plus some gelcoat damage. Bot performed pretty well though. Bill

Ouch!

Bill, Sorry to hear about the boat damage......thank goodness it was not that bad though. My boat is being put on the lift and hung over the pit tonight so I can scrape out and paint the centerboard trunk and paint the centerboard. Also, want to see how the pendant for the centerboard is holding up.... Will be spashed Wednesday and will sleep on her this weekend!! Greg
