I just took delivery of my first boat yesterday. We decided on a 1997 376. After picking up the keys the first thing I did was to go and remove all of the manuals from the boat so I could read through them and be prepared to ask questions (we've hired a licensed captain to go sailing tomorrow and help us get comfortable with the boat.) Anyway, I was surprised to discover that there is no actual owner's manual for the boat itself or the Yanmar diesel. Since this is my first boat I don't know if this is normal. I can't imagine the seller held them back since he left all of the manuals for the accessories plus a bunch of other stuff he thought I would need. Can anyone enlighten me? Thanks

Big blue binder

there should a thick three-ring binder with a blue plastic cover that has all the Hunter stuff in it. The Yanmar book should have come with the boat, but I have heard of cases in which it didn't. For a boat that new I'm sure you can get replacements from Hunter. Check the home HOW home page for the Factory connection link and use the customer service form to request one. We hope to have them online here in electronic form someday...

Manuals

As you have read you should have the blue owner manual also the Yanmar Diesel engine JH(2) series manual. I also am a new owner (2yrs) of a 376 also quite new to sailing. If you would like to contact me by e-mail please do. I would be happy to talk about our and your experiencies with the 376's Getting back to your current problem of no manuals, and they are useful,I'm sure Hunter could help you with theirs and also be able to obtain or direct you to Yanmar to obtain one. Manufacturers Literature

Our Hunter is an older model (1988) and the owners manual is rather skimpy (wiring runs, pipe runs, sail plan, and not a whole lot else) so I've been collecting manufacturers literature on everything on the boat, from the horseshoe and its holder to ports, hatches, and everything that's been added (inverter, battery selector switch, refrigeration, heater, and even things like life jackets and harneses). To date there are two three-ring binders worth of literature with alphabetized tabs (A-Z). It's come in very handy numerous times such as when ordering replacement gaskets for the ports, light bulbs for the running lights, determine what lubricant to use on the through-hulls, etc.

Owner's Manual

Our boat came with a hugh binder full of all the individual parts manuals. However, there was no general manual from Hunter regarding the boat. I, too, found this frustrating!

Thanks

Thanks for the responses. I have them now. The binder was not with the rest of the ships papers in the Nav station where I thought it would be. For the record I had contacted Hunter and they offered to send the stuff right out. Nice guys. Tony, I'll drop you a line soon. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for you.
