Now that we have successfully replaced the coupling, stuffing box, and shaft from metric to imperial, we discovered the new cutlass bearing, snug in the strut, but is now extended about 1/4" each side of the strut-after the marine service (parts) place closed. Apart from this and installing the batteries, she is ready to launch. Is this a (big) problem? Should we really wait and have it cut to size on Monday? I was a bit miffed as they had the original, and needed to shave a bit off the perimeter to match the original's outside diameter-how could they miss the length? All replies appreciated, many thanks. (She is expensive as she is pretty awesome looking this Jeanneau 32').

Do you have a dremel or similar cutting device? I would cut it.....

Good Luck!

That is not a big deal. I would leave it just like it is. I would prefer to have a cutlass bearing too long by just a bit than too short by any amount.

It is common to have to cut the bearing to size but 1/4 inch excess is also acceptable (mechanically). Trim it down with a dermal tool as suggested or leave it, your choice.

A 32 tooth hacksaw blade will work fine if this really bothers you but it won't do any harm the way it is.

Thanks everyone. It is already all assembled, my service/parts place is open today, and was told it was okay as well. For sure we are leaving it. Should I notice anything untoward in the fall, I will post a thread with the info. Have a great weekend everyone.
