One of the overhead windows on my 1988 Oceanis 350 is leaking. I cut out the rubber caulking and carefully resealed with Life Caulk on the outside but it is still leaking at the same spot.

Has anyone removed and rebedded these windows? Any advice will be appreciated.

Thanks

Dow 795 Silicone

I did this repair on my B352 on one window and now I have to repair the starboard side. The key is to use Dow 795 (black) with the recommended Dow primer. Make sure the window and the fiberglass is clean of all previous silicone. I used almost a full tube of the 795 to bed one window - but a lot gets squeezed out. I masked everything - the window and the boat - inside and out. It is messy job and you need about six hands. Weight it down while the 795 cures (several days) but pull off the masking tape right away, before it really starts to skin over. So far the job is holding up well. Best to do the job on a cool day to give your self time to work - on a hot, humid day the silicone cures too fast to do the job. I hope that helps.

Re: Dow 795 Silicone

Murray,
Thanks for the advice. I used black Life Caulk as I was told that silicone would not be good for the window material. After hours of cutting out the old caulking, carefully taping and spreading the new caulk with a spreader you would think it would have sealed up.

So I think I will have to remove the window and do your fix. Any advice on removal?
Thanks,
Bob Gales

Re: Dow 795 Silicone

No not really, just of alot of scaping and light sanding - it is a time consuming job. I did take the window home where it was easier to work on. Bob, make sure you also use the recommended primer - the Dow dealer should have it in stock - that's what the pro's use. If you need more info on the primer I can look at my can and advise. The primer is more expensive that the 795. The 795 is used by builders and the automotive industry for windows and similar things. It is a 5 star product in my opinion. Good luck, Murray
