Outhaul

I sail my Beneteau 34 single-handed much of the time in Singapore waters which are known for prevalent light winds. I am thinking about running my outhaul line through a block at the base of the main and back into the cockpit so I can alter the tension easily without the need to go forward. However I am not sure whether running such a line, connected as it will be to the boom, will have any negative consequences.

Any thoughts?

I rigged the outhaul on my 323 down to a block at the base of the mast, through one of the existing line organizers to a spinlock on the cabin top. Its muuch more convenient than using the cleat at the forward end of the boom. I cannot see any major reason for not doing it.

Shouldn't be a problem ...

I believe all of us with a furling main have the outhaul routed to a block at the base of the mast and lead back to the cabin top. Mine is rigged that way by design.

We have our 1997 Beneteau 321 rigged that way no issues

I have a 31 and rigged the outhaul the way you described... I had to change the line in the boom because it was too short... I used the spinnaker halyard block and organizer and go to the mast to raise the spinnaker. I use the outhaul a lot more than the spinnaker!
