All,
On my 336, outhaul ends on the mast (not in the cockpit). There is no winch either on the mast to tighten the outhaul when requried. What setup is required for me to bring the outhaul to the cockpit?

You need at least two turnig blocks and some way to stopper the line at the cockpit. You boom end (gooseneck) may already have one of the turning blocks in it. Then you need one at the mast base. If your run from mast base to where you are going to stopper the line is straight then you are set. If the run is not straight (follow the other control lines) then you will need some sort of deck organizer also or use the existing deck organizer if there are extra sheaves in it. then just stopper the line like the rest of your lines are stoppered for a profesional look.
I'm making the assumption that you already have some sort of winch to use on the halyards and can us that for the outhaul also.

We've been looking at making the same modification, and I'm also thinking about having our mainsail recut as a loose footed sail. It seems to me that the ability of the outhaul to shape the sail would be greatly enhanced by eliminating the bolt rope along the sail foot.

Many if not most outhauls simply don't have enough purchase in them and therefore a winch is needed. I upgraded the stock outhaul in my boat to a 6:1 internal system which has plenty of power to do the job in the bigger breezes. The control line exits at the bottom of the boom and makes a 180 back along the underside of the boom to a cam cleat with a fairlead.

Did the same as Alan, except I have 4X1 outside and 2X1 inside for 8X1. It made a huge difference. I did not rig mine back to the cockpit either; I already have a lot of stuff there and the outhaul only gets adjusted a few times typically.

How do you get at the parts inside the boom? I think I saw somewhere where the H336 has a 2:1 internal system. I'd like to upgrade mine as it offers very little purchase for adjustment, and I assume the lines inside the boom are original, i.e. 16 years old.
