I tried replacing the outhaul line today on my 1987 Hunter 23. I sewed the new line onto the olds line and expected to just pull it through the boom. It didn't pull through! It is now stuck somewhere in the middle. I'm afraid if I pull too hard I will break the thread. Can a boom be taken apart? any other suggestions.

Thank you

There is a 2:1 purchase so the outhaul line that comes out of the boom that you adjust it with does not go all the way through. The boom end line goes to the becket of a block while the adjuster end is attached to the forward end of the boom on the inside after going through the block
you can take off the boom ends by drilling out the rivets. Replace with screws. you should only need to take off the forward end.

It's a horrible experience

...to lose the line in the boom. If you can't crack it or prefer not to, pull out both ends and take the boom home. Stand it up and get on a ladder to drop a weighted line down the middle to fish through to the other end. An electrician can help if you have difficulty since they do this all the time in houses.

We've all been there, in one form or another. There's probably a fanciful metaphor for losing the line in the boom, but the only thing I can think of is "Damn!"
