2002 Hunter 356 Oakville
Hi, I'm looking at replacing my main halyard, mainsheet, jib halyard and outhaul. I have located the line type, size and length for all but the outhaul for the in mast furling rig. Can anyone assist with this? I'm away from the boat for a while so I would greatly appreciate the help. Also can anyone confirm the approximate eye size? Owners manual has all the other data but the outhaul. Thanks,

Can anyone chime in if they would agree that Samson XLS Extra is over kill for the main halyard on my 356 with in mast? I use the boat for cruising only. Also considering using yacht braid polyester across the board. Should I be concerned with stretch on the main halyard causing furling issues?

I had the same issue with my outhaul; no information. Just ordered a replacement on this site. Send a message to Phil and he can probably provide one for you.

Use what Hunter recommends. You do not want any stretch on the halyard!

yeah, it's missing from the manual; I measured 50-55' when I made a new one. use a low stretch line for the outhaul and the halyard, don't skimp

Thanks gentlemen. I agree, I have been thinking about this and will go with something comparable to XLS. Thanks again for the feedback.

The chart in my manual (2000 - 340) says to splice in 3/4 inch eyes. I have replaced all the lines you are talking about and the 3/4 inch eye is more than enough to hold the shackles needed for each application.
I used all XLS rated lines. Maybe a little more than needed for some but well worth the slight extra cost per foot, for a good reliable line. As Chuckwayne said...don't skimp.
Just today, I replaced my Jib Furler Line, tomorrow I will be doing the Outhaul and then I'm done.
Take your time with the job, none of them are really hard, maybe a little time consuming is all.
Hope this helps.

As sailcapt340 said, use a very small eye - just big enough for the shackle to pass thru. I used xls - ultra T for very low stretch and it works really well. This line(dyneema core, polyester cover) requires a core to core splice but reduced my outhaul stretch in a breeze from 6" to less than 1"
