Some of the rope on my Hunter 18.5 is nearing the end of its life cycle and the lengths and sizes are in the manual but nothing about what type to use, what decent that won’t break the bank?

Best method is to buy some cheap string from Walmart attach to exist lines and pull out/in. Then match line at local marina and pull new line back in. Double brade marine line only your whole boat probably set up for 5/16 or 8mm line and u could buy 100' and replace all running rigging

Oh my you may have opened a hornet's nest.

West Marine's Advice topics has a good primer on running rigging.

Different needs for different lines. Once you decide on the type of line to serve the tasks you have, you might want to check no marine sources like business that serve arborists or loggers. They supply the same types of line (rope) that is used on boats, but often at a more favorable price point (without the boat up charge).

Check out the prices right here at SBO Shop. Selecting Line for Running Rigging | West Marine
They ship to Canada. They source great line and your purchase helps support the forum.

@Dave Groshong might be able to even help you with the lengths of specific lines like Halyards and such.

The forum will offer a lot of great experience.............suggest polyester double braid line like Samson LS that is smooth running and easy to handle. Refer to the West Marine article entitled "Selecting Line for Running Rigging".
