Outhaul advice

I bought a 2002 Beneteau 361 this summer. I discoverd this fall when reefing that the previous owner had used the reefing line as an outhaul and that there was no outhaul rigged. I have plenty of extra sheaves at the gooseneck, extra turning blocks at the maststep and extra rope clutches in the cockpit. Any advice on how the orignial outhaul was rigged? What purchase (3:1, 4:1)?Thank you

Outhaul

There is only one line attached to the clew of the mainsail. This is the line you haul on to unfurl the main, and it also acts as the outhaul. Meaning, you use it to adjust the amount of draft in the main, and would slack if off when furling the main. By the way, my father lives in Chattanooga and while visiting him over Thanksgiving, we attened the "Grand Illumination" downtown on the river. What a show! The lighted boat parade and fireworks were something!

Boat parade

Hope you saw my boat in the lighted boat parade...we were the only sailboat and had the rig lit like a 50-foot Christmas tree.Since my mast and main are a "Classic" not a furler, I don't need a line to pull the sail out of the mast. I need a "Classic" outhaul to adjust the tension on the foot of the main over a very small range (maybe six inches) but with a mechanical advantage so I don't have to use a winch and load up the gooseneck with pressure. I can't believe it didn't come with some arrangement to do this.Thanks for your response. Hope you will come back to Chattanooga. We have a great lake to sail on -- only six minutes from downtown -- and we can sail all year long.

Yes, I did see you!!!

And my wife and I noticed as well that you were the only sailboat. I have to say your lights were among the best, and your "tree" really stood out. We get back quite often - Chattanooga's a great city to visit. Saw the new marine aquarium for the first time. They've really done a nice job with the whole downtown area. Sorry, can't help you with the classic main.
