Outhaul Advantage?

I have a 1988 H26.5 and have a busted outhaul. Many of you are familiar with the Z Spar 2:1 block rig on the inside of the mast end. The 5/16 line that went in the mast end was attached to a 2:1 block assembly before it got mangled. The stainless that ran from the block to the clew of the main at the aft end of the boom was too long for the new sail I had made and allowed the blocks to run together. The lead swedge on the rope caused the blocks to crack apart.

I give a lot of history to ask a simple opinion question. I can replace the block assembly simple enough and then shorten the stainless lead that run to the clew but while I have it apart I decided to run the control line all the way back to the cockpit. where I used to need the 2:1 advantage provided by the block I now have a winch and a clutch brake.

Is there really any reason to replace that 2:1 block assembly now that I have the lines aft and a winch for that last inch?

Second part of the question. If I 86 that block should I keep the stainless or just run that 5/16 line all the way from the clew, through the boom, through the clutch and back to the cockpit?

Thanks for any tips, ideas or comments.

I actually have a very similar system on my 1988 Hunter Legend 37. I discovered the system earlier today and was confused as hell for a minute. I'd like to get rid of all of the stainless and use line just as you described. I hope someone replies or we can find another thread on this somewhere else. Let me know if you come across something or decide on a solution. I will do the same.

Adding a 2:1 to an outhaul is big bang for your buck.

An easy way to do this is to run your outhaul line through the clew and fix iit back at the boom end. Almost every boat I know does this as an easy way to gain 2x on the outhaul.

I have just got my new to me 26.5. As I race there are a lot of things to do. For the out haul I ended up doing a double cascade block system on the outside of the boom so that it cleated close to the clew end. Have a loose footed main so need at least the 4 to advantage. If you look up the harken site you can see lots of ways to do an outhaul.
Also put in Genny tracks but think I'll have to move them right to the base of the window deck curve. Anyone out there have any comments on how close to the edge? Finding it is not quite pointing as well as it should.

Apology - this is completely off the topic, but my '88 Legend 37 is 1,000 miles away and on the hard in Mexico. I very much need to know the forestay diameter, and that info is nowhere that I can find. Can you help?

Thanks....Bob

Bob.
You might want to try starting a new thread in the big boats forum. This forum is for small boats <26' so your question isn't very likely to be seen by those who have an answer to your question.

Not sure of the year of the boat or if it is a true 37 but maybe you could contact Jean at Seco South in the Tampa Florida area who might have that information. I think they made the rigging originally for that boat and if they maintained that information, then she is the contact person to go to.
