I have just purchased a 81 C 22, it has standard equipment sails and all, but little else. Looking for some input on anchor size (for muddy bottoms) and other gadgets or items that might come in handy. Thanks John Seller102@win.net

Start with the basics

John, I started with the basic safty items at the top of my list and went from there. Life jackets, fire extiguisher, flares, paddle/boat hook, ect... The boat came with a dingy anchor, but when some cash came along I bought a bigger one. I think I bought the West Marine "Traditional Anchor" in the 15 lb size. Here in Indianapolis I have found my best investment so far has been new dock lines and fenders. It's blowing steady at 25 mph and gusting to 36! I checked on the boat after work and the waves were breaking over the dock but the boat was fine. Good Luck, Jay Beery vettesrus@mciworldnet.com

Sail handling gear

Furling jib, jiffy reefing, halyards accessible from cockpit are all great features to have, especially when the winds get stronger. Of course, I never had any of these, and had to deal with going forward to change forsails, reef, etc. I was envious of those who could do all that from the cockpit.
