You trying to turn that great G-23 into a bass boat for catching all those big ones in Pigeon Lake?Or - one of those things they have here in the chandlery (see the link)

Outboards will run for thousands of hours with basic maintenance. Thrusters are a good idea. I put a Dolefin on my dink outboard and it inproved overall performance tremendously. if you don't already have a Dolefin, a thruster would be a great idea even on a sailboat as they capture all the wasted thrust lost thru tip waste.

Not to catch the biggies, Jimbo...but to escape them They look good. How are they effected by weeds? I'll have to call Merc to get the blade dia. for my 9.9 4-stroke, Big-Foot. With sails refurbished by Sailcare, & a Thruster!! Like WOW Eh!? Larry, what's a Dolefin? Guess if a Thruster'd work in CA, it should work in CAnada, eh? Roger M.

a wing-shaped plate that's bolted to the outboard's cavitation plate. It provides lift just like a wing. The dink pops up on plane much quicker, carrying more load, and will remain up on plane at a lower speed. Fuel consumption drops and engine wear slows down. They're great, and I would think a thruster would be even more of an improvement since it captures the wasted energy from tip loss (the thrust that comes off the props tips) and re-directs it sternward.
I was thinking about something like this to protect my brand new Idasailor rudder (thank you Santa) from accidental prop contact. I have a seven year old helmsman and grown up novices on board. I am in fresh water, I am thinking of buying some semi-stiff aluminum sheet, cutting it to shape, and hammering it round. Is aluminum the right metal to screw to a 1984(ish) Evinrude Yachtwin outboard? I suppose I have to drill through the wings on the outboard's shaft, are these wings merely for appearance and efficiency, or does oil flow through those for cooling? Other tips or hints before I buy a sheet of some kind of metal? Any reason this will not work? What am I missing?
Why not, eh? Actually, the first thruster i saw, 5 yrs ago?, was self-made of aluminium, maybe 1/8"... Looked fine, the guy, an obvious innovator, said it worked great. Thinking the same thing... But there is a Santa Claus, right? Roger M. "Happy Holidays!"
There was discussion of trying 10" PVC pipe anyone try that yet?I have them on mine to protect the rudder from the prop but the added benefit is that it makes it quieter as well.
