I have one on my 7.5 foot inflatable dingy engine which is a Honda 2.3 HP. I like to be able to sit forward on the bench to help balance out the dingy. The Motor isn't powerful so really it doesn't plane like most larger dingy's with 10-15 HP engines. For me it's a means to get to the shore, to walk the dog, trash removal when anchored at a mooring or just playing around.

I see a lot of DIY types of these that involve a PVC pipe with ID close to throttle OD, some slits cut in the end to allow it to expand/contract a little, and a hose clamp once it is slid over the grip.

Basically free, and the same principle and function as the store-bought ones. If you want a grip, a bit of hockey or handlebar tape on the end.

I've used a cut-off broken boat hook. Very light and a nice fit, if the right size.

I screwed a ~ 10" length of PVC pipe inside the transom to store it. This also makes a handy towing point for kayaks etc.
