How often should the spark plug be changed? In my case I have a Nissan 5 HP two stroke. The motor only runs a maximum of 3 hours a year. But there are situations where it must start. What opinions do you have on these split point spark plugs?

I don't know which split plug you're talking about, but two-stroke outboards like to be run, regardless of plug type. Your engine and plug probably suffers more from sitting there than being run. I replace my plugs every year (two-cylinder 8hp Nissan). For $6, I know the engine will fire on the first or second pull, especially when I really need it. Just my two cents (or $6). Spark plugs

Mine gets changed every spring, I also have a small waterproof container that I tie to the transom of our dingy that has a spare plug and a small wrench for those "situations where it must start". The container also has a couple of chemical light sticks, vinegar based jellyfish wipes, some bandaids and the boat registration.

Bill, After years of drag racing in some extreme

cars with very extreme small block engines I found the NGK or ND sparkplugs are by far the best. I have never "shot ducks" with either and have found the I could run up to 2 dozen passes without any failures. Prior to using these plugs we many times failed to get even 1 run and the max was 4 runs. That was with conventional US made plugs. The NGK and ND were Asian. Therefore I have used them in all gas motors I have ever had and in the vehicles my children own. Gap @ .030 to .032 for your OB if it DOESN't have cd ignition and .035 to .037 if it does have CD.
