Outboard size for Daysailer III

I have a 2001 JOHNSON 4hp long-shaft on my DS II, it provides plenty of power, I could probably get away with less HP, a 2hp would be minimum. I do like the neutral clutch and remote tank features, although swiveling the motor around for reverse would be easier if I were using the built-in fuel tank (fuel hose makes reversing a bit cumbersome).
I'd say get a longshaft if possible, 2-4 hp and it should clamp right to the transom even on a DS III, if you want the motor offset more from the rudder, I'd go with a fixed height bracket bolted to the transom. The DS III doesn't have enough freeboard to need an adjustable/lifting bracket and the fixed ones are less $$ and look much less obvious. My outboard is clamped to a mounting board bolted to the transom to compensate for the reverse rake of the DS II transom.
If you are using the boat o na lake and/or trailering then an electric outboard may also work. I like the new TORQUEDO self-contained electrics with their small lithium batteries........ well, except for the premium price! But a standard transom mount electric with a deep-cycle battery in the boat would still work fine (just keep battery in a box secured to the boat to prevent sliding around while sailing.)
I see you're from Portland, my guess is if that is either Oregon or Maine you will want to go with a gas outboard, Portland , CT might do OK with an electric depending on the current strength in the Connecticut River.
