Hello, I will be putting my c22 on a mooring for this season. What should I do with the outboard? Do most of you leave it on the boat, bring it home with you, lock it up somewhere, or ??? Thanks, Barry

Leave it and lock it

Leave the motor mounted on your boat. Taking it on and off would be a major hassle. You can purchase an "outboard engine lock" from West Marine or just use a cable and padlock that secures the motor to the motor mount. I have a Fulton motor lock that I got from West Marine for about $20. It is quite effective. Randy

Motor

I have a brand new (last year) 5hp merc outboard. I leave it on the mount, locked, when I'm camping on the boat and lock it up inside the boat when I'm off the boat. This motor has an internal gas tank that makes it easy for any thief to fill it up pull the cord and drive away with the boat. Don't like that. Campy

motor locks

I leave mine locked on the motor mount til fall. When we bought it, it had a Master lock bar on the mount, which worked very well til I dropped the hasp of the lock overboard. I replaced it with a Fulton lock, which also worked well. Too well. Corroded so much it took me an hour with WD40 and brute strength to get it off. That may have been due more to the brackish water I'm in than the quality of the lock, but I'm buying another Master lock anyway. Let's hope it holds together a little longer than one season.
