Outboard Motor Vibration

We have a 5hp Tohatsu 2 stroke on our 93 H-19. It starts easily, runs fine and pushes the boat right along, but the vibration is tremendous. At any speed above a fast idle the whole boat buzzes, and the boarding ladder rattles like mad. Is there a fix for this like a different type motor mount or just a different motor? I had a 9.9 4 stroke Honda on my previous H-23.5 and didn't have this problem.

My 6HP Merc exhibits none of the vibration that you have experienced. Sounds like the rubber mounting pads in you motor have gone hard. I found the stock mounting position on my '93 H-19 to be too low, my motor hood hitting seat when tilted up. Hunter provided me with SS mounting brackets which I promptly modified. Motor now sits some 4 inches higher and 3 inches further aft.

Pad the mount...

I've added rubber slabs cut from an old tire. Just slip them in place when mounting the outboard. We have a Honda 5HP 4 stroke which can vibrate a little too much. I think it is because it is a single cylinder. Anyway the rubber has quieted things down. Oh yeah, a band of tape around the side rail of the ladder where the clamp contacts helps too :)
