I have a hunter 466 trying to outfit with a dingy and outboard for use as a tender. We used to store the outboard on rail on the stern. This boat does not seems to allow that . has anyone else had success with Storing the outboard on this boat.

Great question!!..............the only one I could fit on my 46 was an Edson stern rail motor mount. I you buy one make sure its for the correct rail diameter which I recall was 1 inch on mine.

Well, what size outboard? Big & heavy (>40#) or small and less heavy? I don’t have the boat you mention, but I do also have stern lifelines; i.e., virtually no stern railing except at the sides. Less than shown in post #2 above. In any event, I’ve stowed my outboards up to 55# (e.g., 5-hp 4 stroke) in the cockpit locker, or on the side rails. For a heavy 4-stroke, locker storage might be a problem w/o lift assist. Go small!!

Unfortunately, the Hunter 46 (should be same as 466) cockpit lockers are not long and deep enough to store an outboard motor. Might be able to stow one in the aft port lazarette, which is relatively deep, with a suitable method to secure it, if the lazarette opening is large enough (I cannot even pass a rolled up inflatable dinghy into it since the opening is too small).

We have the Edson rail mount for a 5hp propane Mercury OB. Its well made. Also have a stainless engine hoist to lift/lower the OB.

Thanks so much for your help. Which hoist did you get and are you happy with the propane outboard I was thinking of the same one

Don't know about the hoist. Its a stainless pole with an arm that swings out over the stern or into the cockpit. It came with the boat.
The propane engine is new to me and I like it. I bought it from West marine. It has just come out from Mercury. I was interested in the Lehrs model but they had such bad reviews so I waited. I assume Mercury has done this right. I really like not having gasoline on board and not worrying about gumming up a carburetor. I already have two propane tanks in the stern locker so this is easy. I also bought a screw on adapter so I can use a Coleman fuel 1lb propane can that is good for 45 minutes.
