upload_2019-5-1_13-56-0.jpeg I have a Catalina 27(early 70’s). It has a cutout in the stern for an outboard. It came with a new 4 stroke Mercury 9.9. The problem is that there is not enough clearance to tilt the motor out of the water.

I added a bracket to my transom then clamped the motor to that

If I had it to do over again I would have mounted the bracket higher. When underway esp at full throttle the power head sits awfully low in the water. The motor mounted that far aft also has trimmed the boat aft and I need to add more weight to the bow in order to keep trim.

Oh well you can always use another 10 or 20 feet of chain for your anchor rode.

I had the fiberglass insert that came with the boat so I cut a hole in it to route the control cables through and sealed the opening with a scupper.
