I put this HELP messge also on the Midsize Boats blog....but if others have a problem with all the newer Hunters and the curved rails, then I have a larger audience, because I cannot figure out how to install an outboard mount on those curved stern rails...

I had the same problem with our Huther 356. I bought a small plastic mounting board from West Marine but couldn't fit it to any vertical cross brace on the sern pulpit because of the curved rails. A guy at a local boat shop suggested a 1-inch polished SS split Tee used for mounting a flag post to a rail. He ordered it for me and gave me a short piece of 1-inch SS rail that fit into the vertical rail slot in the mounting board. The split Tee mounts over the bottom horizontal rail between the stern rail seat and the stern rail walk-through. It looks like the mounting board was factory installed.

The small white mount works fine on our 356-we just ignored the lack of a straight vertical tube and mounted it on the top horizontal rail

What I Did

Here is what I made to just try out and plan to replace with stainless tubing, but it's been two years and no reason to change, now having all the free time in sunny warm Florida I may change to stainless for a nicer look, maybe.

Will get you a photo

Hey Bob...any chance I can get a photo of that fix??? bmk58@hotmail.com

Bruce,
I coudn't find a photo that showed the outboard mounting board, but it looks a lot like Nick's except it has a SS Tee and strut. Also the lower rail is directly under the top rail, Nick's has a dog leg extending inboard. I am planning to check on the boat this weekend. I take a camera and get a photo for you.

Hey thanks, guys...I'm getting the hang of it now, but would like to see your pics, Bob, if convenient! I found a thread for this same question from a few years ago, but the solutions were not as neat and creative as these. H33 Cynthia Anne

Bruce,
I went to the boat today to catch up on some work and took a few photos of the outborad motor mount for you. This is the smaller West Marine plastic mounting board installed with an inserted vertical rail using a 1-inch split Tee flag post fitting. The Tee fit over the lower horizontal rail and I cut a 6-8" scrap piece of 1-inch rail tubing to fit into the vertical groove in the mounting board. It fit easily between the stern rail seat the vertical pulpit rail at the transom walk through. I took the stern rail seats off today to refinish them.

I found a similar fix, though my stern rail is not as curved.
I also went to WM and bought the small, white, two-part panel but was told that WM no longer carries the 'flag pole, split bracket. Jeff, the WM staffer in S. Daytona, thought about it and came up with a Bimini top mount bracket which hinges at the bottom. (See Web Page Picture)

I took the 1" ss tube to the local machine shop and had them cut out the tubing so it would fit flush with the bracket shoulder. They also to drilled two holes in the tube to accept the ss screws that hold the bracket closed once mounted on the rail. Put the bracket on the bottom rail, close, then put the straight flanges inside the tube, put in screws, tighten, install tube into motor bracket and then the whole assembly to top rail. Make sure you buy the correct size for your rail.

Here's the 7/8" bracket page: http://www.westmarine.com/webapp/wc...Primary Search/mode matchallpartial/0/0?N=377 710&Ne=0&Ntt=Bimini_clamp&Ntk=Primary Search&Ntx=mode matchallpartial&Nao=0&Ns=0&keyword=Bimini_clamp&isLTokenURL=true&storeNum=18&subdeptNum=58&classNum=595

Mine looks the same as BobR's pic

except that the flanges fit inside the ss tubing.

Thanks for these, fellas...I hate a jury rig on a new boat, and these solutions are like "made to order." I'm off and running. BruceK

Bruce,

I used the Edson mount on my H33. I had to trim the starboard stern chair (cut a small notch in the wood base to mount the Edson) but it works great. I hang a Honda 5 hp off the starboard rail and the Edson connects at both rails for extra support. The mount is closer to the center of the stern eliminating any curve issues and does not interfere with the swim platform or captain's chair. Had it like this for three years and no problems.

Good luck!
