. My Hunter is a 81 25' called ""BZ Spin"". The motor mount for my outboard has some play in the spring loaded struts. My question is can this be repaired or do I need to replace the whole unit. Its a great boat but the twisting concerns me. Any Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in Advance "mcgurkf@ndu.edu

Replace

Frank Had the same problem several years ago. My 25 is a 1979 and I would assume the motor mount was the same vintage. When I first got my Hunter in Nov of 96, I noticed that the mount had play and would twist from side to side. Eventually that side to side movement caused enough wear to make it difficult to raise/lower and even get out of the lock position. Finally, the aggrevation was enough to push me into replacing the system. I believe this was the wise choice as opposed to waiting much longer. West Marine had an Adjustable Outboard Bracket that looked identical and used the same transom mounting holes (I believe the Catalog No was 380321 for 10 horsepower motors). This is a Fulton Mount (Fulton No MB1050-0134). It did require a 1 inch plate cut to fit between the motor and the black polypropylene mounting plate of the West Marine Mount. This was necessary to provide standoff for turning the motor itself when lowered fully and tilt for storage when in the raised position. The aluminum standoff plate was cut to fit the existing bolt patterns and outline of the poly plate.

Great Advice on Motor Mount

John I called Hunter prior to your comments and Mike had the replacement discussion with me. Your details were more focused so now it's off to the West Marine Store. Thanks Frank

i have a 85 23' with a johnson 9.9

i noticed the same thing on mine, in fact i have had an anxiety about watching it fall off into the water at times when the engine is on and vibrating, i would recommend replacing the mount, that's what i'm doing.

Do it!

Having towed a boat into the marina that lost it's motor and motor mount I would suggest that if in doubt then get a new mount!
