The old motor died on our recently purchased Catalina 25 and we are looking to purchase a new one. Any suggestions on 20" vs. 25" long stem? Also, would appreciate any motor brand recommendations - we are looking for a 9.9 hp, 4 cycle for less noise and pollution. Finally, any recommendations on easy to lift motor brackets? The one that came with the boat is hard to lift. We would like to use the existing thru-hull holes to mount the new bracket. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

Have a 9.9. Yamaha high thrust with high thrust prop and 25 inch shaft on 30' Irwin (10,000 lbs). Pushes it with ease. Look into a 8 Yamaha high thrust for your boat. I recommend the longest shaft in case you need it on a rough day.

HI, I have a Hunter 25.5 and I got a suziki 15 hp 4 cycle to replace my old honda 7.5 HP. I would not have gone with such a high HP motor, but the tides in Charleston can be swift. It's probably a bit too much power, but it has come in handy on more than one occasion.
