The outboard motor for our Hunter 26' is a 1994 Johnson SailMaster 9.9 hp. When we purchased the boat in March 2002 the owner told us the motor had an electric starter. It has a place to plug the motor's electrical cord in an electrical outlet in the motor well. The electrical cord appears to have been repaired because it has some electrical tape covering part of the cord. I have just used the pull cord, the engine usually starts on the first or second pull. I don't keep the engine plugged in becuase I am afraid of running down the battery. Any thoughts on where the starter button is located. Sincerely, Monte Brown

Look here

Just below the motor cover on the front there is what looks like square tubing. Check on the left side of the tubing. There should be a small rubber button. Push in to start.

Generally speaking, you will intially draw about 20 amps when starting the engine via electric start. Once the engine is running, the alternator then charges the battery, not drain it. Crazy Dave Condon
