I have a 4 HP Evinrude outboard. I read that the gearbox oil should be changed periodically. Where might I find the gearbox oil resevoir? The previous owner didn't leave me with a manual. Thanks.

Lower unit Oil

Typically on the starboard side of the motor at the bottom of the shaft you should find two screws, one above and one below the prop shaft. Removal of these screws will allow the lower unit oil to drain. Putting the oil back in is always fun. Load oil into the lower hole until it comes out of the upper hole, install upper screw, then install lower screw while losing as little of the newly installed oil as possible.

Oil Type?

Thanks! I found the screws. What type (weight) of oil should I use?

Bob B.

The oil that I use is

Shell, Nautilus Marine Gear Oil, SAE 90. I purchase at the Canadian Tire store, but that would be a long long drive for you. Regards, Bob B.
